Funny farm or Animal farm?

Leaving aside for a moment the whole issue of religious fundamentalists' desire to impose their archaic practices on the rest of the world, the Pope's subtle and disingenuous self-contradiction (for which I believe he has a natural talent), strikes me as particularly Orwellian.... "We believe in equality. Equality is sacrosanct. As long as it's our kind of equality. Some are more equal than others, you know." Here endeth the lesson.

Some of us still have to work here you know.... and I am sure I saw this pope geezer in one of the executive offices today. With the bonus round sheet....

@UDH Boy - I'm trying to recall a saying.. it goes something like

"It's harder for an SB to pass through the eye of the beestreefart than it is for an auslander to enter the kingdom of bonuses..."

What's all this "equal" stuff about?

@laog - Being a member of the aristocracy, I understand your difficulty with the concept. It's all about 'rights'. Or 'lefts', if you will.

Suffice it to say, though, that when one goes to the trouble of dictating what is right and proper for others, one should at least have one's own moral and philosophical house in order.

I'd like to think that we both of equable minds in that respect!

No, no, no!

When authority has a direct connection / lineage to an Ultimate Bully (e.g. God, Nationalism, Race, there is no need "to have one's own moral and philosophical house in order" - that is for democracy.

On a more serious note, though, I don't see why you're so upset by what the pope actually said.

As far as I can see, the Roman Catholic Church is a private institution that is entitled to its own rules.

Will Manchester United be swapping Alex Ferguson for a trans-gender manager at the end of the year?
I don't think so - for all sorts of reasons, financial, social and more.

Similarly, if the Church wants to exclusively employ straight men who transform their sexual energy into a Godly search and don't ever f*ck little boys, well that's their perogative, surely?

N.B. I believe that the Church should split into several factions:

1 The Church we know and love - RC CLASSIC
2 Married male heterosexual priests - RC LITE
3 Female heterosexual priests - RC LITE LAY-DEEZ
4 Married female heterosexual priests - RC LAY-DEEZ LITE
5 Male butch homosexual priests - RC MACHO
6 Male fem homosexual priests - RC MINCE
7 Lesbian butch priests - RC DYKE
8 Lesbian fem priests - RC SAPPHO
9 Formerly male trans-gender priests - RC MACHO - SNIP
10 Formerly female trans-gender priests - RC SAPPHO - HUMP

Then we wouldn't have any of these problems, would we?

Damnations!

3 should have been:

Female heterosexual priests - RC LAY-DEEZ
